Airbnb is a platform that connects travelers to people who have a space to rent in their homes and want extra income. For the guest, this means the possibility of cheaper travel and a unique accommodation. For the host, this means additional earnings that can help pay the bills or even keep their homes.

Around the world, Airbnb connects over 3 million listings in more than 65,000 cities and more than 191 countries. And over 180 million guest arrivals at Airbnb listings worldwide. In Brazil, Airbnb’s community has about 123,000 listings, of which 45,000 are in Rio de Janeiro and 11 thousand in São Paulo. And in 2016, Airbnb registered over one million guest arrivals in the country and helped democratize tourism revenue by spending in a wider range of
neighborhoods.

As Airbnb grows, we recognize the opportunity and responsibility to work with local governments to further develop the economic potential of alternative tourism to the neighborhoods and cities our hosts call home. We are committed to sharing aggregate data about our community, and have entered in agreements covering over 275 jurisdictions.
