Last night, Airbnb co-hosted an event at London’s City Hall with Munira Mirza, Deputy Mayor for Culture, in London. We had the chance to discuss the growing influence of Airbnb hosts on culture and tourism across the city. It was an evening of cocktails, nibbles, fantastic views and even better company.
Munira Mirza kicked off the evening by saying,
This report shows how much London’s outer boroughs have to offer. When we launched our vision for cultural tourism in London, we found the top 20 attractions in London account for 90% all visitors to the capital. That’s the tip of the iceberg – London has a lot more to offer. You are helping to show what makes London great.
Our very own James McClure, UK & Ireland General Manager, told the assembled hosts,
You are ambassadors for London. By hosting in your homes, you are helping drive people and spending to local businesses and neighbourhoods. You recommend local attractions, cultural gems and family-run businesses to guests; over 80 percent of you share personal and local recommendations with guests.
Our favourite part of the evening was getting a chance to mingle in “London’s Living Room,” enjoying London’s breathtaking view with so many Airbnb hosts and key figures from London’s Arts and Tourism industry. Over half of Airbnb hosts in London are from the arts and creative industries, so it really felt like a celebration of London’s creative community and of the Airbnb hosts who help others discover this magnificent city for themselves.
