A year ago, we announced that Airbnb would be making one of our largest social impact commitments to date — committing $1 million in travel credits to grant a wish a day in partnership with Make-A-Wish® America and Make-A-Wish® International. As 2017 comes to a close, we have granted 462 wishes this year. Not only did we surpass our goal of granting a wish a day in 2017, but we are on track to grant 475 wishes before the end of the year. To celebrate this milestone, we followed John and his family on their trip to San Francisco.
John loves the water and wished to cage dive with sharks. To complement his adventurous wish, Airbnb provided a surfing Experience in Marin. He also stayed in an Airbnb listing that kept him close to all San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood has to offer- including great pizza and Coit Tower!
“I had the most fun surfing – our hosts were delightful, helpful and knowledgeable. I left feeling like I was born to surf!”
“This experience has changed how we will travel. From now on, we will always book adventures with expert locals.”
– Dawn, Make-A-Wish kid
With the help of our host community, Airbnb became one the largest sponsors of accommodations for travel wishes this year. In addition, we provided meaningful Experiences for wish kids, to make their wish experience that much more magical. From baking with a Parisian chef, to learning the art of sword fighting in Japan, Airbnb Experiences have unlocked myriad local experiences for wish families.
“Airbnbs offer a personalized experience that allow families to all stay together and make themselves at home on their wish. Most of our wish families are always so busy with doctors’ appointments, work, and school that they don’t get to just hang out together. Airbnbs provide the perfect environment for them to enjoy quality time together.”
– Abby, Wish Coordinator, Make-A-Wish® Southern Nevada
Airbnb has proudly granted wishes in more destinations (300 cities) than any Make-A-Wish partner to date, which would not be possible without the generosity of our host community. Half of Airbnb hosts who hosted wish kids this year offered discounted rates, extending the organization’s travel credit even further.
“Thank you very much – we laughed, danced, cooked, toured, and we lived. It has been a long time since we have lived.”
– Maria, Make-A-Wish parent
With 462 wishes granted this year and counting, Airbnb is excited to build upon this partnership in 2018 with our host community.
