Today we are releasing new data that shows the impact Airbnb is having on the Portuguese economy (Download the report). In 2016, the Airbnb community generated €1,070 million of economic activity in the country. Economic activity includes the money earned by hosts and the guest spending in local businesses.
Local households in Portugal earned €166 million last year sharing their home, while the 1.6 million guests that arrived to the country spent a total of €904 million.
- The number of Portuguese using Airbnb to explore the world doubled, reaching 264,000 last year.
- The average Airbnb host typically earns an additional €3,600 by sharing their place for 39 nights a year.
- There are now more than 53,000 homes listed on Airbnb in Portugal.
