Airbnb strongly supports the right of Victorians to share their own homes sensibly and respectfully. Hosting is a big responsibility and we expect our hosts to meet our community’s high standards. We are also constantly striving to make our platform better and safer, as well as help our hosts be good neighbours in the places they call home.
While we have done much, there is more that needs to be done to stamp out bad actors and bad behaviours. It is why in May 2016, Airbnb joined with the Victorian Government to support the Owners Corporation Amendment (Short-Stay Accommodation) Bill 2016. The tough but fair law we believe will deter bad behaviour and fairly punish bad actors who repeatedly do the wrong thing.
We are again calling on the Victorian Parliament to pass the Government’s proposed tough but fair laws. Given the two-year anniversary is fast approaching, the time has more than come to pass the Bill into law.
Importantly, Airbnb remains the lone industry champion of this common sense, necessary law. We call on other short-term accommodation providers to follow our lead and immediately support the proposed laws.
