On November 19th, Airbnb announced the launch of its ten-year partnership with the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in Sichuan, China. The two parties will collaborate to promote awareness and education of Chengdu’s giant pandas around the world, and support the Base’s conservation efforts through the joint building of a wildlife conservation station. The partnership also aims to foster sustainable tourism and cultural exchange via people-to-people connections, and promote Chengdu as a burgeoning international tourism destination.
Tu Zhi, Deputy Secretary-General of Chengdu Municipal Government, said at the ceremony, “From rural to urban areas, home-sharing has imbued our hospitality industry today with a new holistic sense of community, aesthetic and authenticity. We look forward to our collaboration to combine Airbnb’s global experience with Chengdu’s unique culture to promote greater awareness and protection around the Giant Panda globally. We believe our partnership will boost the city’s tourism standards, and further enhance the international competitiveness of our hospitality and tourism accommodation industry, towards helping Chengdu become a world-famous tourist city.”.
