On Saturday April 22nd, members of the Airbnb East Bay host community partnered with the Port of Oakland for their 22nd Annual Earth Day Beach Cleanup. The cleanup takes place every year at the Middle Harbor Shoreline Park, the former site of the Oakland Naval Supply Depot, and is a fun, family event for people of all ages. The group of 10 hosts removed harmful debris that will lead to clearer waterways and a more beautified waterfront.
Jordie, a longtime East Bay resident, has been volunteering for causes she cares about for years. This year marked her first time participating in a project with other Airbnb hosts. “It was great to team up with Airbnb this year and help give back to the city that I love. It was a gorgeous day to work at such a scenic spot, right next to the iconic ship loaders with the stunning views of San Francisco and the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges.”
The beach cleanup was one of over 80 projects that the City of Oakland organized for Earth Day with an estimated 2,500 volunteers participating across the city. Today, Earth Day is the city’s largest community volunteer event.
