Home sharing has long infused a positive overall impact for Orlando. Whether by expanding lodging capacity during big events like the Pro Bowl or facilitating affordable vacations for families, Airbnb hosts are allowing more people to visit Orlando and stay longer. And when Hurricanes Irma and Maria devastated much of Florida and Puerto Rico, dozens of Orlando hosts opened up their homes for free to evacuees.
Now, the city is stepping up to support and recognize the Orlando host community. Earlier this week, the Orlando City Council overwhelmingly approved new rules that legalize home sharing in residential neighborhoods.
This victory could not have been possible without the Orlando hosts who spoke up and advocated on behalf of this smart, progressive legislation. We particularly want to thank Mayor Buddy Dyer for his leadership and recognition of the valuable role Orlando Airbnb hosts play in supporting the local economy.
Airbnb and our Orlando host community look forward to continue growing the tourism pie in 2018 and delivering even more revenue to both Orlando and Orange County!
