California Coastal Stay Official Rules



The “California Coastal Stay” Contest (“Contest”) sponsor is Airbnb, Inc., 888 Brannan Street, San Francisco, CA 94103 (“Sponsor”).

How to Enter

Enter from April 21 through May 12 at 8 am PDT.  Either use the link provided in the email you received or click here and follow the instructions to submit your entry, and provide your answers to the survey found there and the following question:

What was your favorite memory from your stay(s) at the California coast?

Essay/Answer Requirements

Answers must: (a) be in English and a maximum of 550 characters, (b) comply with Airbnb’s Terms of Service and User Conduct guidelines, (c) be entrant’s original work, not previously submitted in any promotion or displayed publicly, (d) not violate the rights of any other party, including but not limited to intellectual property rights or rights of privacy/publicity, and (e) not contain any content which (i) constitutes advertising or commercial content for any party other than Airbnb, (ii) endorses/promotes illegal or harmful activity, or (iii) is violent, profane, vulgar, obscene, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable or inconsistent with the image of Airbnb. Airbnb reserves the right to disqualify any submission that violates these prohibitions or that Airbnb deems inappropriate for any reason, in Airbnb’s sole discretion. You represent and warrant that your submission does not make unauthorized use of, or violate, any rights of any third party, and that, if necessary, you can provide proper permissions in a form acceptable to Airbnb.


To enter, you must be 21 years old. Directors, officers, employees, parents, subsidiaries, equity holders, affiliates and agents of Airbnb, and the members of their immediate families or households, are not eligible to participate. In the event of a dispute about the identity of an entrant, entrant will be deemed to be the authorized account holder of the email address provided at the time of entry. Sponsor’s determinations as to eligibility are final and binding.

Winner Selection

A panel of judges will collaborate to select five (5) winners based on the following criteria:

  • 50% – Originality and creativity of the submission. Does it surprise and delight us?
  • 30% – Spirit of the submission. How does your submission relate to Airbnb? Does it tell us something about you?
  • 20% – Quality of expression. Is it well-written?

The decision of the judges is final and binding.

Winner Notification/Validation

The winners will be notified on or about May 19 using contact information provided at time of entry. The winners and their guests may be required to sign and return an affidavit of eligibility, a liability release and a publicity release where permitted by law, as well as provide information necessary for compliance with any applicable tax laws. Failure to comply within two days may result in disqualification and the selection of an alternate winner. If a guest is deemed a minor under the laws of his/her place of residence, all documents must be signed by a parent or legal guardian who must also accompany such person in any prize-related travel.

License & Media Interviews

By entering, you grant Airbnb an unrestricted, perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to reproduce, distribute, transmit, publish, display, broadcast or otherwise use your submission, with or without modifications, in any media, whether now existing or later developed, for any purpose. To the extent allowed by applicable law, you waive any “moral rights” relating to your submission, consent to publication of your submission in any manner which might otherwise be deemed to constitute a violation of any applicable moral rights, and further agree that Airbnb may use (or not use) your name, likeness, photo, and/or geographical and biographical information in connection with your submission.


The prize includes the following for the winners: $200 credit to be used on Airbnb. Winners are responsible for payment of any taxes due as a result of acceptance of prize, as well as for all other expenses or costs not expressly listed above, as well as any incidental or personal expenses. No substitution, transfer or cash redemption of the prize is permitted, even if part of the prize is not used, except by Airbnb in its sole discretion.

General Liability Release

By entering, you release Airbnb and each of their respective affiliated companies, equity holders and all of their employees, officers and directors, agents, or heirs, from any liability whatsoever, on any theory, and waive all claims and causes of action arising from or related to this Contest and agree to indemnify such parties against all claims and expenses arising from your or your guest’s violation of these rules, negligence or intentional wrongdoing.

Interpretations and Disputes

Participants agree to be bound by these Rules and all decisions of the judges, which are final and binding. Any disputes shall be governed by the laws of the State of California, and shall be resolved in the courts of San Francisco, California.


Airbnb is not responsible for computer or network problems or other submission errors that result in late or inadmissible entries. If any terms or provisions of these Rules are held by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, void, or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. Airbnb may suspend, modify or terminate the Contest if it believes, in its sole discretion, that malfunction, error, disruption, or damage is impairing or will impair the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of the Contest, in which case the Prize will be awarded among the eligible entries received that were unaffected by the problem, if possible. Winners names

Airbnb will publicly announce the winners within approximately 7 days after the close of the Contest Period, or upon final validation of winners if later, via its social media channels.
