The holiday season in the District of Columbia is nothing short of magical. From the illumination of the National Christmas Tree and the Pathway of Peace to candlelight tours of historic homes and the light displays at local parks, the city is aglow. Beyond the Mall and the renowned monuments, what makes DC so special are the people that call it home.
Airbnb hosts across all eight wards will be welcoming guests from around the world this holiday season, serving as ambassadors to our nation’s capital.
“Home sharing creates a way for residents to personally welcome guests to DC! A chance they most likely would not have otherwise.”
Ryan Flacco, Airbnb host in Truxton Circle
In a cute and clever move to inspire guests to experience what DC has to offer through the eyes of a local, several hosts took out personal ads in the Washington City Paper.
When guests stay with Airbnb hosts, they often stay in neighborhoods throughout the eight wards that are outside of the typical hotel and tourist zones. What’s more, guests end up spending money in these neighborhoods, driving powerful economic activity into parts of the city that have not historically benefited from tourism. Truxton Circle host, Ryan Flacco, notes, “Airbnb provides economic opportunity that only big name hotels benefited from, but now all community can benefit.”
To be sure, Airbnb hosts and guests will play a critical part in making every corner of every ward merry and bright this holiday season.
