How to book emergency accommodations during a disaster for $0

During and immediately after a disaster, Airbnb works with local government and authorities to activate our Disaster Response tool in the affected areas. The program is almost completely community driven: Airbnb hosts can offer housing to displaced neighbors and relief workers deployed to help for $0. All service fees are waived. Visit our Disaster Response page to learn more about the program.

Step 1

Visit our Disaster Response page and click “Find shelter” to search for $0 listings. To make it easier to quickly book listings, please create a verified account. More info here.

Step 2

Then, you will be directed to a page where you can search available listings by area, available dates, listing type, number of guests, and number of rooms/beds needed for your stay.

Step 3

Use the search options at the top of the screen, and “Filter” at the bottom of the screen for more search options (highlighted below). If your dates are flexible, you can adjust them to see various housing options.

Step 4

Once you’ve selected the listing you need, click “Request to Book” on the listing page (highlighted below).

Step 5

After requesting to book, you will be asked to sign into your Airbnb account, or to sign up for an account if you’re new to Airbnb. Need help signing up? Visit our how-to guide.

Step 6

Once you’re signed in, you will be sent back to the listing page. You’ll see a pop-up asking if you’ve been displaced by a disaster (highlighted below). $0 listings are only meant for individuals evacuating due to disasters. If you are an evacuee looking for shelter, you’ll see a pop up at the top of the page asking you to verify if you’ve been displaced by a natural disaster, please check that box before proceeding to book. Once checked, you can complete your booking request.

Step 7

Once you’ve requested to book a listing, tell the host about the purpose of your stay. Here you can outline your needs and make sure with the host that this is the most suitable listing for you. Click “Next”and proceed to the payment page (highlighted below).

Step 8

On the payment page, input your payment details (highlighted below). We need payment information to proceed, however, you will not be charged when $0 is displayed.

Step 9

Click “Submit.” You will receive confirmation of your booking request via email, and the host will get in contact with you to finalize your booking.
