More than half of international and Swiss hosts on Airbnb are women.
At the start of last year, Airbnb announced that female hosts had generated around $10 billion in profit since the company was founded in 2008. In 2017, female hosts earned that same amount within just one year.
More than CHF 70,000,000 was generated by female hosts in Switzerland in 2017 alone
With this additional income, Airbnb contributes to greater financial independence for women worldwide. In 2017, more women than ever before were sharing their homes, and over half (55%) of all hosts on Airbnb are now female.
“Hosts are at the heart of what Airbnb does. Women make up half of our international host community and are clearly a driving force behind its success. We are proud to offer women a platform to nurture their entrepreneurial spirit: Airbnb contributes to the greater financial and professional independence of women worldwide as well as to their social engagement.”

Since 2017, in addition to home sharing, hosts have also had the opportunity to offer their own local activities via the Airbnb Experiences platform. In 2017, half of all Airbnb Experiences worldwide were provided by women.
Some female hosts have been inspired by Airbnb Experiences to launch social projects or to donate their income to charitable institutions. Some of these organizations are also directly supported by Airbnb, including the Self-Employed Women’s Association of India, the charity Open Africa and the Vital Voices network, which supports women around the world in their entrepreneurial ventures.
