Social Impact Experiences on Airbnb are a way for guests to learn more about and support the charities and causes they love. With 100% of the proceeds going directly to the nonprofit or social enterprises who host the experience, it’s an excellent way for guests to support a charity or cause while exploring a new city.
After a short tube ride to Redbridge, an outer borough of London, at the Guide Dogs Social Impact Experience guests participate in an immersive behind the scenes look at the charity’s work. Guide Dogs is a charity which has existed in the UK since 1931 and with over 2 million people in the UK living with sight loss alone, their work is more vital than ever.
In addition to grooming and playing with the dogs, guests learn about how much work goes in to training each dog, with each dog costing roughly £55,000 to train. Guests then participate in a blindfolded obstacle course to get a true understanding of how important these dogs are for those living with sight loss.
Lorna Copland of Guide Dogs for the Blind shared how instrumental Airbnb has been in helping raise the charity’s profile, “Having the Social Impact Experience for Guide Dogs on Airbnb has allowed us to raise awareness of the work that we do. We rely on the generosity of individuals so by raising funds and awareness it helps us continue our life changing work.”
There are hundreds of Social Impact Experiences to take advantage of, to support local causes and nonprofits in cities around the world, while discovering something new:
