As world leaders gather in Paris to discuss global sustainability goals at this week’s United Nations Conference on Climate Change, Airbnb and NRG Home Solar–one of the country’s leading residential solar companies–are proud to announce a new partnership to make solar more affordable.
At Airbnb, we want to make home sharing even more sustainable. Studies have previously shown that home sharing, in comparison to staying in traditional accommodations, significantly reduces energy and water use, greenhouse gas emissions, and waste generation. Through this innovative partnership, we’ll provide travel credits to encourage people to try a more environmentally sustainable method of travel. We think this exciting partnership is a natural step towards greener living.
Current hosts who sign on with NRG Home Solar through this promotion will receive a rebate on their solar lease. Homeowners who go solar with NRG and become new Airbnb hosts will receive the lease rebate, as well as an Airbnb travel credit. And if a current NRG Home Solar customer becomes an Airbnb host, they’ll also receive a travel credit to use on Airbnb.
The program, which launched on December 1st, will be available in California and New York–we hope to expand the offering to other states in the coming months.
The partnership is part of our collective efforts with NRG Home Solar to develop wide-ranging programs that increase the availability of rooftop solar. Together, we’ll enable more people to join the fight against climate change while reducing their utility bills.
