On Thursday evening, a group of fifty members of the Southwark Home Sharing Club came together to celebrate the launch of the Southwark Local Cultural Guide at the Dulwich Picture Gallery. The guide is a collection of hosts’ personal recommendations of their favourite things to eat, see and do across the borough with a particular focus on small and local businesses.
The event featured a keynote address from the Mayor of Southwark, who gave high praise to the Southwark Home Sharing Club and Airbnb’s community of hosts for their work within the borough, stating:
“The thing I like about Airbnb is the fact that we have people coming from all over the world and we can recommend all the local pubs, restaurants and art galleries, you name it. And that means that it creates employment for local people, which is important. I think Airbnb has a great knock-on effect. I’d like to see lots of people in East Dulwich become hosts and if I can help in anyway to promote that, I will.”
Ana, one of the club leaders spoke about the group’s efforts to continue reaching out to small businesses and promoting those found within the cultural guidebook by leveraging their new Instagram account to provide additional tips.
Following on from the launch, the Southwark Home Sharing Club is planning an event in 2018 to support some of the local business owners in the area on Saturday, January 27th.
