Meet Jonathan, an Airbnb host who shares his home to meet new people

Why did you choose to share your home?

I started to rent out the second bedroom in my apartment for financial reasons. Following a separation, I found myself living alone in my apartment, and this situation was untenable in the long term. As I wasn’t ready to consider sharing my home permanently, Airbnb immediately appeared to be the right solution. After almost a year of amazing encounters, I still think that it was a good idea!

Why do you love sharing your home?

I enjoy being a host as it introduces me to people from all geographical backgrounds: the Middle East, Europe, South America, the United States, the Far East, Australia and Africa. All of these regions have landed on my doorstep in less than a year! I welcome both tourists who are visiting Belgium for a few days and people who need accommodation for business stays.

What local gems do you recommend to your guests?

I try to impart my knowledge of Brussels to my guests in the best way possible. Are they interested in architecture, gastronomy, cinema? I will make suggestions based on what they would like to discover in Brussels. But, if I have to name a must-see, for me, it has to be the Horta Museum.
