President Park calls for fair, progressive reforms
Airbnb warmly welcomes news by the Korean government today that home sharing in parts of Korea should be allowed up to 180 days per year. This is great news for Korea, the economy and the everyday people listing their homes and spare rooms on Airbnb.
“Deregulation is the most effective way to foster creation and investment in the private sector and provide customized solutions for each case, while saving on costs. Our economy can only take another leap when we boldly remove regulations blocking the growth of new industries, ” the president said at a meeting with senior officials in charge of regulatory reform for the country.
This is a recognition of the tremendous benefit home sharing brings to our community and we look forward to working with the government to help grow and diversify tourism as more and more visitors seek unique travel experiences in the homes of local residents.
Last year alone, over half a million tourists travelled to Korea through Airbnb. Airbnb offers stays in homes, condominiums, Minbak, and other accommodations which are shared by ordinary people.
We know the growth of Airbnb is helping spread the economic benefits of hosting to new families, communities and regional businesses that wouldn’t otherwise benefit from the tourist dollar.
Korea has a global reputation for hospitality and culture that is built on sharing and we know that today’s announcement will help more people to experience the very best of our country.
