Airbnb hosts in San Francisco have been welcoming guests into their homes since 2008. Over the past year, Airbnb generated $495 million in economic impact for San Francisco. Airbnb hosts aren’t the only folks who benefit from home sharing. Of the entire Airbnb community, roughly three-quarters of listings are outside the main hotel districts, bringing economic benefits to communities that have not benefited from tourism, like the Bayview neighborhood.
To better understand the impacts of the Airbnb community in San Francisco, our team of data scientists analyzed proprietary data as well as the results of a survey Airbnb sent to guests and hosts in the city.
