Q&A | What is “Welcome to France” about ?

1 – What is “Welcome to France” about?

“Welcome to France” is a unique opportunity – the first of its kind – for members of our host and guest community, to share their personal experience and contribute to building Airbnb’s future as a 21st century company.

The “Welcome to France” board brings together 30 hosts and 10 guests already strongly committed to the life of our community and who are willing to spend some of their free time with this assembly some of their free time to this assembly.

2 – How will “Welcome to France” work and impact decision making at Airbnb?

Three times a year, the “Welcome to France” board will meet to work together with the Airbnb team with workshops to:

  • Help Airbnb create the best possible service for our community
  • Make sure our community grows responsibly and sustainably, and benefits many people across all French communities

The board‘s recommendations will be shared regularly with Airbnb’s leadership team, who will respond and explain how the ideas can concretely apply to the company’s strategy.

3 – Why launch a community board now, and only launch in France, 10 years after Airbnb was created?

The Airbnb host and guest community has grown tremendously in the last few years. During the first 10 years, millions of Airbnb users have gained more than experiences on our platform but have also gathered key insights about the challenges around home sharing.

Airbnb believes that now is the right time—in conjunction with the company’s 10th anniversary—to create such a community board as an opportunity to harvest and leverage this great potential, in order to contribute to our ultimate goal: making Airbnb for everyone.

France is the first tourism destination in the world while Airbnb’s French community of hosts and guests is the second largest in the world after the US, with close to 400,000 hosts and 12 million guests. These reasons are why this new initiative will first be launched in France.

4 – How have the members – hosts and guests – been invited to join “Welcome to France”?

Our goal was to make sure all members of our board are experienced, dedicated host and guests willing to give some of their time to reflect and work together on the future of the Airbnb community. We’ve created a process to pick the best hosts, who have provided a great experience to guests for many years, and guests who have a tremendous experience while travelling on Airbnb!

5 – Since the Airbnb community is supposed to be mainly about regular people who occasionally share their home, why include professional hosts?

As Brian Chesky—the CEO and Head of community of Airbnb—explained recently, our goal is to make sure Airbnb becomes a service for everyone. This includes providing great experiences for travelers looking for a stay in places like primary homes, family and holiday homes, but also authentic and quality B&Bs or boutique hotels all around the world. The quality of their services and their passion for hosting make these professionals a fantastic addition to the Airbnb community.
