The Hessian parliament has ruled that all cities across the state must distinguish between home sharing and commercial rental

Cities in Hesse must incorporate home sharing into the local housing laws after the Hessian parliament said local housing rules must distinguish between regular people sharing their homes and commercial operators running a business.

The federal government of Hesse, as well opposition parties, have pushed the distinguishment between home sharing and commercial operators in their change requests. The Hessian parliament has clearly shown cities, like Frankfurt, who have strict housing laws that disproportionately affect home sharers, the importance of differentiating between home sharing and commercial operators. Residents who occasionally share the home they live in for short periods of time should be excluded from the need to request permission from the city.
